Cadet LTC Brian Wade has been named the 2014 Distinguished Senior for EKU's Department of Military Science and Leadership. The student is selected based on superior academic achievement, excellent leadership, citizenship, character and services to EKU.

EKU Pershing Rifles competes at NATCON 2014

Cadet Ben Cuthbertson competes at the Pershing Rifles competition

Over spring break, EKU's Pershing Rifles Drill Team went to Richmond, Va., to compete in the NATCON 2014 annual drill meet.

The team competed in IDR platoon, squad, color guard and individual exhibition by CDTs Baine and Cuthbertson. Although the team did not win, CDT Baine placed second in the individual event.

RICHMOND — Elizabeth A. Fariello, daughter of Mark and Tina Fariello, became the Eastern Kentucky University Army ROTC program's first female cadet command sergeant major earlier this year.

2LT Tyler Fight, a 2012 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and commissioned officer of the EKU ROTC program, recently returned home after graduating from Navy School Explosive Ordnance Disposal in Eglin Air Force Base, Fl. The school was just over nine months long including the nine week long pre-course for Army students in Ft. Lee, Va. 

Colonel's Battalion hosts 2013 Cadet Stakes

2013 Cadet Stakes event

On September 28, 2013, EKU Army ROTC Colonels Battalion hosted the 13th Annual Cadet Stakes.

Cadet LTC Trevor Barnes led the event with 24 high schools from the Madison County area scheduled to attend. Most schools fielded two teams making a total of 20 cadets participating in the event.

Grant Montgomery promoted to Lieutenant Colonel

Jason Grant Montgomery was recently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A ceremony was held on Sept. 26, 2013, to formally recognize his promotion from Major to Lieutenant Colonel. ROTC Cadre, colleagues, and friends gathered in EKU's Business & Technology Center as LTC Montgomery received his new officer's insignia.

Remembering Those Lost on 9/11

President Michael Benson speaks at a 9/11 remembrance ceremony on the west lawn of Keene Hall. The event, staged by the EKU VETS Club and Army ROTC Program, included the placement of 2,977 small American flags at the site representing the lives lost that day.

Colonel's Battalion Participates in the Mountain Man Memorial March in Gatlinburg, Tennessee

EKU Colonel's Battalion Mountain Man team

The Mountain Man Memorial March began in 2008 when University of Tennessee students marched for their fallen peer, 1LT Frank Walkup. The 26.2 mile trek through the mountains of Tennessee has continued over the years and grown into a wonderful event to honor fallen soldiers and their families.
