Army National Guard Enlisted Soldier
If you are an enlisted Soldier in the Army National Guard you qualify for the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) and may be able to compete for the Dedicated Army National Guard Scholarship (2 ½ or 3 Years) or the two-year Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarship.
Simultaneous Membership Program
Available to any full-time college student willing to join both Army ROTC and Army National Guard. The SMP option is also available to current members of the Reserve Component (Army Reserve or National Guard) or non-scholarship ROTC cadets.
Beneftis of the Simultaneous Membership Program include:
- Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in EITHER the Army National Guard or Active Duty.
- WIll not be required to deploy while in school.
- Drill pay at E5 grade (or higher based on current rank) per month (about $300)
- 2 week annual training pay ($2000)
- ROTC Stipend $420 montly during semesters
- Federal Tuition Assistance ($250 per credit hour up to 16 hours)
- State Tuition Assistance Program (up to $60,000 total)
- G.I. Bill benefits starting at $397 monthly for those who qualify with $350 kicker monthly
Requirements:
- 2 year program
- Full-time college student
- Join Army ROTC
- Join Army National Guard
- Attend ROTC classes "simultaneously" in both their assigned unit and their ROTC unit
- Complete bachelor's degree or master's degree
- Complete ROTC advanced course
Dedicated National Guard
- DEDNG scholarships cover full tuition
- DEDNG scholarships cover $10,000 annual living allowance
- Recipients also receive up to $1,200 for books annually
- Grad students can also apply if they have only two years remaining until they graduate
- Cadets participate in SMP program:
- Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army National Guard
- Will not be required to deploy while in school
- Drill Pay at E5 grade (or higher based on current rank) per month (about $300)
- Two weeks annual training pay ($2000)
- ROTC stipend $420 monthly during semesters
- Federal Tuition Assistance ($250 per credit hour up to 16 hours)
- State Tuition Assistance Program (up to $60,000 total)
- G.I. Bill benefits for those who qualify
Obligation will begin with commission (right after a degree is obtained)
- You will incur an 8 year military obligation
Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty
- GRFD is for students entering their junior year of college with a GPA of 2.5 or higher
- GRFD scholarships cover $10,000 annual living allowance
- Receipients also receive up to $1,200 for books annually
- Cadets participate in SMP program
- Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army National Guard or Army Reserves
- Will not be required to deploy while in school
- Drill pay at E5 grade (or higher based on current rank) per month (about $300)
